The 2026 Renault Clio will not have an electric version: that role is already filled by the Renault 5 E-TECH

Renault confirms that the new Clio will not have a fully electric version, since this is covered by the existence of the Renault 5 and the Renault 4.

The new-generation Renault Clio is already being prepared. It won’t arrive just yet, but within a few months this popular European compact will be on the market in its next generation. We expect great things from it, but if there is one thing we will not have is a battery-electric version of the new Clio.

The reason the French manufacturer gives for not offering a fully electric version is very clear: why build an electric Clio when that segment is already covered by the new Renault 5 E-TECH and the Renault 4 E-TECH? These two models, designed to occupy the compact electric car segment, do not need another competitor, least of all within the same brand.

This sets out the brand’s market strategy. Rather than going straight to electric mobility across its entire range, it will offer buyers a variety of powertrains in the Renault line-up. Drivers of the brand will have combustion engines with varying degrees of electrification and fully electric models, to suit their taste and convenience.

The new Renault Clio 2026 is based on the Renault Emblème concept, with continuity-driven lines that preserve the model’s traditional style, but with a contemporary touch. The front end is fully updated, with more attractive and aerodynamic lines. With these innovations, the aerodynamic behaviour will be more sustainable and will reduce fuel consumption and polluting gas emissions.

More technology on board

The driver will find the new Android Automotive system, which improves integration with mobile devices and the most widely used apps, such as Google Maps and Google Assistant. This delivers a more engaging and connected driving experience.

As for the absence of an electric version, this allows Renault customers who are not entirely convinced about driving an electric car to still choose a compact with the Clio’s heritage and all the equipment options it offers.
