Cybertruck Tesla Electric Cars Pick-up
The 4680 cells are no longer a problem for Cybertruck production
Tesla is taking steps to ensure that the availability of 4680 cells does not become a future problem for the production of several electric models from the brand
Exactly one month ago, a report we covered here at HighMotor cast doubt on Tesla’s production plans for its new electric pickup. According to that report, the American manufacturer would not be able to increase production volume of its new-generation 4680 cells to the required levels, which would consequently create a bottleneck affecting Cybertruck production.
The situation, however, appears to have changed in a very short time. The company now states that it has been stockpiling 4680 cells for several weeks and that production is running ahead of schedule.

Tesla currently has only one production line and one assembly line for its 4680 cells, but four additional lines are planned to be added in the third quarter of this same year. This will substantially increase their production volume. The company is also working to close agreements with other suppliers that could provide this type of cell, so its availability should be secured going forward.
Giga Nevada gains greater relevance
The American manufacturer has also just confirmed that the expansion of its Nevada plant has already begun. As planned, two new complexes will be built. One will be dedicated to producing 4680 cells and the other to series production of its electric Semi truck.
Each Semi unit uses a considerable number of these 4680 cells, so concentrating the production of both the Semi and the cells in the same location will allow the company to significantly reduce costs. Over the past year, Tesla delivered only a small number of its electric trucks to customers, and the company specifically attributed the delivery delays to the shortage of 4680 cells. A problem that now appears almost resolved.

Elon Musk also recently confirmed, as we told you here at HighMotor, the commercialization of a new, truly affordable compact model by late 2025. However, although it has not yet confirmed this, it seems quite likely that it will use a different type of cell, cheaper than the 4680, in order to meet the goal of selling this vehicle at around 25 thousand dollars.
