BMW Serie 5 Sedans Hybrid Cars Family Range / versions
The 5 Series from BMW will feature a Mild-Hybrid system starting this autumn
The Bavarian brand plans to roll out a series of updates across its models. In addition, the new BMW 5 Series will offer a Mild-Hybrid version.

BMW has announced a range of updates for the autumn, including the launch of a mild hybrid system on the 5 Series. From then on, the BMW 520d saloon and estate will come equipped with a 48 V starter-generator and a second battery. The starter-generator allows the engine to switch off completely while coasting, which helps reduce fuel consumption by up to 0.3 l/100 km.
In addition, the starter-generator can act as an electric motor, which adds an “extra dose of dynamism when accelerating at full speed.” Speaking of the Bavarian brand’s 5 Series, the BMW M550d xDrive Saloon and Touring will now come equipped with BMW Laserlights. These high-tech headlights offer a light range of up to 650 metres.

Continuing, the BMW M135i xDrive will be offered with a new M Performance package. It will feature a high-gloss black grille, as well as mirror caps and exhaust tips with a black-painted finish. The option also removes the standard storage package and adds special 18-inch light-alloy wheels. These latest changes reduce the car’s weight by approximately 10 kg, which helps improve the 0-100 km/h time by a tenth of a second.
The 8 Series Gran Coupé may be new, but it is already receiving some updates. In particular, the BMW M850i xDrive and models equipped with the M Sport package will be offered with a new carbon-fibre roof. Customers will also have the option to order new carbon-fibre interior trim.

How will the BMW range be updated this autumn?
On the crossover side, the BMW X5, BMW X6 and BMW X7 will get a range of BMW Individual options in December. These include BMW Individual paint and 22-inch light-alloy wheels. Inside, customers can order an Alcantara headliner, piano-black trim and full Merino leather.
The BMW X6 also gets new options such as Ash Grain Brown or the Fineline Stripe finish. There are also new paint colours, carbon-fibre exterior accents (a rear spoiler and mirror caps) and a load compartment package that includes “sliding rails, anti-slip rails and retention nets”.

In addition, the BMW X5 and BMW X6 get an improved Driving Assistant Professional system that now includes Lane Change Assistant. The BMW X5 xDrive30d and the BMW X5 xDrive40i will also be offered with an Adaptive M Suspension Professional package that adds active roll stabilisation, integral active steering and an M Sport differential.

According to the German brand itself, the Driving Assistant Professional system offers drivers “extremely comprehensive assistance in monotonous and complex traffic situations. Its range of functions now includes a 3D display of the area around the car, which has been available on all models equipped with BMW Live Cockpit Professional since July 2019. The system uses data supplied by the cameras and sensors of the driver assistance systems to generate a real-time three-dimensional graphic image of the vehicle’s surroundings. The image appears in the centre of the instrument cluster and helps give the driver a clearer view of what is happening on the road, especially when driving on multi-lane motorways.”
