9ff had it clear from the start: build a supercar based on the Porsche 911 to beat the top speed record for a production car. Said and done. 409 km/h.

This magic figure has a technical basis that the company has just revealed; and, more importantly, a price: 498,000 euros for each of the 20 units that will be built.

The engine is the same as the 996 Turbo’s, with four litres of turbo, dry sump, titanium connecting rods… little remains of the original engine, in short. 987 CV at 7,850 rpm with a maximum torque of 964 Nm at 5,970 rpm; the key to success.

The suspension is electronically adjustable, with McPherson struts at the front while the rear has horizontally mounted dampers. The brakes are ceramic, with 6-piston calipers at the front and 4 at the rear. Finally, as far as one can tell, the chassis is a separate mix of whatever suited each part best. The front comes from the GT3, but the rest is tubular, with parts made of carbon fibre and Kevlar.

The refined aerodynamics and the reduced height of 1,180 mm do the rest to reach the speed in question. It may only be a clever trick with little to offer outside a straight line, but looking at the price and exclusivity… wouldn’t you think twice compared to the Reventón? I would.
