The affordable electric city car MG2 will be unveiled this very year
The segment of affordable electric city cars is set to heat up considerably in the coming years, with a long list of new contenders, and we now know the MG2 will also join that lineup.
Following some rumours that surfaced at the end of last year, the MG2 is taking shape as the new entry-level electric model in the MG Motor range. In recent statements to the media, the Product and Planning Manager for MG Motor in the United Kingdom referred to this new model, stating that its base price will start at around 23 thousand euros. That would make it one of the most competitive options in its segment.
The MG2 will be officially presented during the second half of this year, but its arrival on the market is not expected until 2027. Although no specific launch date is known, it is reasonable to assume that if it is officially unveiled in the second half of 2026, first deliveries should not extend beyond the summer of 2027. Nothing has been confirmed, however.

In any case, this represents a substantial delay compared with the first rumours about this model, which pointed to a market launch in 2025. Something that obviously did not happen.
Its price will not be its main selling point
The MG2 will sit at least one step below the MG4 Urban in MG Motor’s electric model lineup in Europe. That range is becoming increasingly broad and already includes seven models with fully electric drivetrains. It is worth noting that although the MG2’s price can be considered quite competitive, MG Motor does not intend to compete on price, but rather to offer a value proposition, combining comprehensive equipment, good range and dimensions suited to everyday use in urban settings.
As for design, MG Motor appears set to adopt a style clearly inspired by British taste, seeking to differentiate itself from the competition. Little is known, meanwhile, about its technical specifications, but everything points to the MG2 using the E3 platform employed by the MG4 Urban or a close variant.

The MG4 Urban is currently the entry-level electric model in MG Motor’s range in Europe, although for the time being it is only available in the United Kingdom and Austria. In the latter, it is available from 19,990 euros, but includes a discount of around 5 thousand euros granted by the country’s government, so its real price is about 25 thousand euros.
It would therefore not be surprising if in some European countries the new MG2, applying these same incentives, could be purchased for around 16 or 17 thousand euros, which will undoubtedly place this model within the budget of many potential buyers looking for a vehicle in this segment.
