The Alfa Romeo Duetto, the result of the collaboration with Mazda
Some details about the Alfa Romeo Duetto have emerged, the result of the announced collaboration between Mazda and Alfa Romeo.

Given the history of both brands’ two-seater and spider models, the combination could be explosive. And although for now we are at the stage where “sketches” of the joint model from Alfa and Mazda are coming out left and right (here is the first of them), some information has emerged about the new Italian-Japanese spider.
The first thing to tell you is that the model will be called Duetto, a name very much in tune with the collaboration between the two brands, but that also designates one of Alfa Romeo’s historic models and which would be revived (on Mazda’s side, will it be the new MX-5?). The next thing is that it will be powered by the 1750 cc TBi turbo direct-injection engine, which has already become almost mandatory and is fitted to the Giulietta, the 4C concept and the previous Spider.
Among other details revealed, the new Duetto would also have a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic dual-clutch gearbox with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Alfa will insist on selling this transmission to Mazda, so the Japanese variants also use this gearbox. Recall that it had been said both versions would have different engines, though that does not necessarily mean it will be strictly so.
Finally, it has also been reported that this time Pininfarina will not be on board and will not take part in the design of the new Duetto, although some innovations are expected involving the use of aluminium and stronger yet lighter materials by both brands.
The Duetto looks promising, and we will have to be patient to learn the outcome of this convertible, a sort of Italian-style MX-5, since it is not expected before 2014.
