The Audi e-tron GT beats the Audi A8: more production for the former and less for the latter
The German company has decided to reduce production of the Audi A8 in favour of the Audi e-tron GT, in a move to offset the weak sales of the A8.

The German press has just announced that, according to its sources, Audi may be considering cutting production of the A8. This is the flagship of the brand when it comes to luxury saloons. The reduction in units produced may be driven by global sales results. And China is one of those places where the expected results for the model do not seem to have been achieved.
This market sells a special version of the Audi A8 L Horch, which is slightly larger than the Audi A8 L sold in Europe. This model is built at the Neckarsulm plant. This is the same plant that builds the Audi e-tron GT, so given the falling sales of this model, priority will be given to building the e-tron GT.

It has not been made public how many fewer units of the Audi A8 will stop being produced, although that figure is expected to reach 1,000 fewer units a year. Production at the German plant will not be harmed by this decision, as the increase in the Audi e-tron GT will offset the drop in production of the luxury saloon.
This move will take effect from January. In figures, Audi says that around 15,000 units of the electric saloon have been sold. Moreover, electric vehicle sales are gradually rising, which makes this a more than justified move.
Audi has delivered 76,989 electrified cars between January and September 2022, so it is clear that electric mobility is firmly established at the company. So much so that all of the brand’s launches are expected to be fully electric from 2026 onwards. Among these new releases an electric version of the Audi A8 is also expected, so this model will possibly regain its place in the company’s line-up.
