Audi continues to reveal details of its new Q6 e-tron, and now it’s the turn of the interior, which debuts a new design with a large curved screen for the driver and a head-up display with augmented reality.

On the outside we still see it with camouflage and bearing the name Audi Q6 e-tron prototype. But at Audi they didn’t want to wait any longer to show us the interior of its new electric SUV, which debuts a new design philosophy that will extend to future models of the brand. A design that is increasingly digital, in which screens continue to gain prominence and allow clean, very fluid lines.

At Audi they call it “Softwrap”, and this refers to the design applied to the dashboard, which extends from the doors to the centre console itself. The brand of the four rings plays as it knows how to with colours, textures, materials and ambient lighting to provide a very welcoming feel, introducing new upholstery made from recycled polyester, without forgetting Dinamica microfibre and fine Nappa leather for the top variants.

The boot capacity of the SUV has also been revealed, which reaches 526 litres and can be expanded to 1,529 litres by folding down the rear seats. An optional storage space of another 64 litres under the front bonnet will also be offered.

Three screens adding up to almost 40 inches

Unlike the MMI Touch configuration we have seen in the brand’s recent models, with a main central screen and a second screen below to control the climate control and other functions, the Q6 e-tron debuts a new layout with an independent panoramic screen Audi MMI for the driver. This screen integrates the digital instrument cluster Audi virtual cockpit, of 11.9 inches, and the touchscreen of the MMI touch, which here reaches 14.5 inches.

The passenger has a third MMI screen of 10.9 inches which, at least in these first images, looks a bit like an “add-on” and doesn’t fully integrate into the dashboard design. At least not as the MMI does for the driver, who faces a steering wheel that, as in the Audi Q4 e-tron, has a flattened design and touch button panels. Another novelty is the optional augmented reality head-up display. It is an evolution of the one presented in the Q4 e-tron, now offering a wider field of view.

Virtual assistant and interactive interior lighting

The ambient interior lighting system is also new, now called “interaction light”, which includes welcome and farewell animations and functions complementary to the instrumentation, such as displaying the dynamic turn signals or alerts related to the level and progress of the battery charging process.

The new infotainment platform debuting in the Audi Q6 e-tron brings a few more new features, such as an avatar on the dashboard representing the voice assistant, which is activated by the command “Hey Audi” or at various touch points. The online app store already announced by Audi allows access to third-party applications directly through the MMI touchscreen. And as always at Audi, the infotainment is completed by the most advanced sound systems from Bang & Olufsen, with 3D sound, 22 speakers and 830 watts.
