The Audi RS5 follows in the wake of the facelift with subtle but well-judged changes

The Audi RS5 and the RS5 Sportback have undergone a facelift that subtly alters their styling and cabin but respects the V6 under the bonnet.

The second generation of the Audi RS5 has earned the respect and admiration not only of the most affluent customers, but also of every enthusiast of sports cars. Not for nothing, and despite its success, the four-ring brand has decided to give one of its most iconic offspring a light update. Thanks to it, the Audi RS5 regains its composure with a fresher, more modern look, which allows it to position itself once again as one of the most attractive options in its segment.

This facelift was designed to help the more modest versions of the A5 and A5 Sportback age more gracefully, and after meeting the revised S5 TDI, it was only a matter of time before the RS5 received a makeover. These discreet yet necessary changes are found mainly in the styling, an area in which the German sports car flexes its muscles.

The main novelties are visible in the bumpers, which have been seasoned with a more aggressive recipe whose main ingredient is larger air intakes that complement the wider singleframe grille perfectly. We should also highlight the LED headlights, which now adopt a new design first seen on the standard A5 and A5 Sportback, giving a more contemporary look.

To enhance the sportiness of the whole, the designers at Audi have opted for two new and exclusive colours called Turbo Blue and Tango Red. The bonnet also features three cut-outs in honour of the iconic Audi Quattro , and the sills have been modified to better match the new 20-inch wheels with a specific design.

The cabin shows few changes and is still led by two screens of 10.1 and 12.3 inches, the latter responsible for the Virtual Cockpit. The new steering wheel with the RS button and the new sport menu of the digital instrument cluster are the most significant novelties we notice in the interior of the freshly updated RS5, an area where carbon fibre and Alcántara take centre stage.

The mechanical side, by contrast, remains unchanged, but why change something that is already working well? With this premise, the Audi RS5 continues to use a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 capable of producing 450 CV and 600 Nm of torque, figures that enable the German coupé to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and reach 280 km/h, performance that can be enjoyed in Spain at the beginning of 2020.
