The Bentley Bentayga could offer a lower-powered engine... but just as impressive

The Bentley Bentayga is the brand’s SUV, the one that broke every mould and allowed the great British brand to join those offering this increasingly popular type of vehicle. And so it would not be outdone by the rest of the brand’s models, it was fitted with a 6.0-litre W12 engine that delivered an imposing output of 608 CV and a maximum torque of 900 Nm. This powerful engine allows it to reach 301 km/h and hit 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds.

But this power seems to be too much for those who approach the model, and so it appears they have considered reducing that output, with talk that 2019 will bring a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, which we have already seen fitted to another of the great luxury SUVs on the market, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

As this news stems from a rumour that emerged from the website Autoguide and has yet to be confirmed by the British brand, it is not known what kind of tuning this engine will get in the Bentayga. If we go by the specifications the Cayenne offers, we know that its output in that model is 550 CV and 770 Nm.

This engine allows the Cayenne to match the Bentayga in acceleration, with a time of 4.1 seconds, but its top speed is “only” 286 km/h. This drop in power would allow the car to come down in price while still offering outstanding characteristics, even if the figures are not quite as spectacular.

In addition to this less powerful version, Bentley could be considering adding more versions of its SUV, including a version with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, which could be seen this same year at the Geneva Motor Show. A decision that will bring this impressive luxury SUV closer to more potential drivers and make it easier to see on the roads (and off them) without losing its impressive power or its exterior looks, which are already quite striking.
