The BMW i8 will go on sale a few weeks after the i3

After the global unveiling of the electric BMW i3 and knowing the price at which it will be sold in our country, the German brand had little more to say about the i3, other than the tense wait before its commercial launch.
The next step was its other hybrid model, the i8, which we already know will be presented almost at the same time as its smaller sibling, with just “a few weeks” of difference. The news was mentioned by the CEO of BMW of America in an interview with Automotive News, although the comment was made with regard to the American market.
BMW has in preparation a complete range of future i electric models, since it holds enough patents for theoretical models i1 through i9, although for the moment the future models are an unknown. As for the i8, it is also not known whether in Europe it will be sold through the Internet and selected dealerships, just as the i3 will be.
The BMW i8 is based on the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept presented in 2009. With a final model weight of 1,450 kilos, it is expected to have the same performance as a BMW M3 with a V8 engine, reaching 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds. It will have a 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine producing 223 CV and an electric motor producing 170 CV. Its price in Europe will be around 100,000 euros.
