The BMW iNEXT, the brand's next 100% electric model, reveals its hexagonal steering wheel

The BMW iNEXT will arrive in 2021, but little by little it is beginning to reveal its secrets, such as the hexagonal steering wheel it will feature.

The electric segment is beginning to flourish strongly, as the Grupo BMW demonstrates with its latest bets. Both the i3 and the newly arrived MINI Cooper SE, about whose price in Spain we told you recently, are in charge of leading the electric family within the German house, but the truth is they are about to welcome a new member. Its name will be BMW iNEXT, and it will arrive ready to showcase the advance of the brand’s electric vehicles but, in the meantime, it has sought to charm us by showing off its steering wheel, which adopts a hexagonal shape.

BMW has known how to maintain the mystery and intrigue surrounding its future electric offspring, yet we have still been able to learn several very interesting details. Besides its innovative steering wheel, the iNEXT has also revealed a very innovative curved screen and a series of technical data that promise to eradicate several problems of contemporary electric cars.

The BMW iNEXT will make its appearance on the market in 2021 but, considering the advances BMW has revealed, its debut could come earlier. So far we know it will have a 100% electric powertrain capable not only of achieving 0 to 100 km/h in under four seconds, but also of offering a range of over 600 kilometres.

To make the package even more attractive, the Bavarian house promises that its next electric vehicle will feature Level 3 autonomy. Without a doubt, the technological level offered by the iNEXT is worthy of a science-fiction film, which is why its exterior and interior components will be coordinated, as its steering wheel shows.

Thanks to its six edges, the iNEXT’s steering wheel takes the form of a hexagon, and it is indeed increasingly common to see geometric figures in the design of the latest vehicles. In this way, very sharp and crisp lines are achieved, capable of accentuating a more sporty and aggressive look, which fits very well on the most radical electric vehicles. At the same time, it will also allow its users to see the instrument cluster more easily.

But BMW’s reasons for designing a steering wheel like this are not merely aesthetic, but also functional. The brand’s engineers assure that it will be much simpler for the iNEXT driver to grip the wheel correctly and adopt the right angle with greater ease, two aspects of vital importance for more efficient and safer driving.
