The BMW M135i leaks ahead of schedule, previewing an aggressive and imposing design

A few weeks ago, BMW itself shared a series of images of its upcoming new 1 Series testing under camouflage. In them, both the standard variant and the entry-level model of the M family, the M135i, could be glimpsed. However, the German brand never mentioned launch dates. Yet, thanks to BimmerFile and various YouTube videos, we have been able to see both the front and the rear of the next generation of BMW’s compact model, which features a rougher, more aggressive look and fits perfectly into the new design language of the Bavarian brand.

For now, BMW has provided little information, but thanks to this leak we have been able to get a little closer to the final look of the M135i. As we have mentioned, this name refers to the entry model of the M division of the German brand, which plans to compete against other vehicles in the segment such as the Audi S3, the Mercedes-AMG A 35, or the Volkswagen Golf R.

A striking design that embraces the canons of BMW

There is no doubt that we can see how BMW has drawn on its latest design language to bring the new 1 Series to life. Two prominent kidney grilles lead the front, alongside slim-cut headlights that convey modernity and freshness. We also notice the vivid blue hue that covers the body of the Bavarian compact, a clear sign that it will offer a much more attractive and youthful color palette.

At the rear, we notice two taillights reminiscent of those on the latest 3 Series, where a more angular design gives it a sharper character . Last but not least, we should highlight the twin real exhaust outlets housed within the diffuser, which will make an appearance on this M135i variant.

306 CV for the souped-up BMW 1 Series

As is usual with BMW models that carry an “M” badge, we find performance worthy of that letter which represents far more than one might imagine. The 1 Series was not going to be any different, and as the brand has already anticipated, the M135i version will have an engine capable of delivering figures worthy of a true sports compact.

A four-cylinder heart will power the most potent BMW 1 Series, and it will deliver 306 CV of power. That output will be managed through an xDrive all-wheel-drive system and an automatic gearbox, with the aim of making the most of every last ounce of sportiness the Bavarian compact has to offer. For now, launch dates remain unknown, but given the leak that has occurred, we can expect it to be a matter of months, or even weeks, before we get to meet the new 1 Series.
