The BMW Ms face off against each other, according to Autobild

The magazine Autobild has pitted the entire range of BMW M models against each other in lap time tests at the German Sachsenring circuit.

As a Christmas present, Autobild has put together a comparison of several heavyweights from BMW, specifically the fortunate models that carry the coveted M letter as part of their name. The lineup in the comparison includes the M3 CRT and GTS, the M5 saloon, 1M Coupe, M3 coupé, saloon and convertible, the X6M and X5M, and the M5 sedan.

The test was carried out at the little-known Sachsenring circuit, where the troupe of M models has left its mark on the asphalt. The comparison was organised around lap times on that track. Do you want to know which of the BMW Ms is the fastest?

The fastest was the M3 GTS, though on semi-slick tyres. The BMW M3 CRT was the fastest car in the comparison on road tyres, considering its more than generous use of carbon fibre and the 30 extra horsepower it adds over the standard version. Its lap time was 1:38.87. Next came the M5 saloon with a surprising lap of 1:38.90.

The 1M Coupe shows it can be serious in the hands of the right driver, finishing slightly behind the F10 M5. The M3 coupe and saloon finished almost level, the M3 convertible lost out to its hard-top siblings, while the X5M and X6M finished almost last for obvious reasons of manoeuvrability, being two SUVs, followed by the E60 M5, which already shows its age.
