The BYD Seal U officially lands in Spain and announces its price
BYD will soon expand its range in Spain with the arrival of the new Seal U, a segment D SUV whose price and availability we already know

BYD continues its full expansion across Europe, and now it does so with a model that they announced last summer and that also helps boost the Seal range’s lineup. It is the new Seal U SUV, which, as you might imagine, shares a strong resemblance with its saloon sibling, while keeping its focus on families.
The BYD Seal U becomes the third member of the Ocean series and, within the European range, sits below the BYD Tang as a five-seat segment D SUV. It measures from 4,785 mm in length to 1,890 mm in width and 1,668 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,765 mm which, combined with its flat-floor design, allows the five occupants who can ride inside to travel in the greatest possible comfort.

As you might imagine, it bears a fair resemblance to the Seal saloon, especially in front-end details such as the “U”-shaped headlights or the “X” design of its front fascia. Although it also features rounded, smooth lines, it has distinctive details such as the dual LEDs placed at the ends of the bumper, or the lower section adorned with silver-finish protection. The side is dominated by 19-inch wheels in a two-tone finish and the upper waistline that extends to the rear LED light cluster, which spans the full width of the rear and is inspired by water drops. The rear in fact contrasts with the front by presenting sharper lines, accentuated by black details and silver lower protection.

The interior of the BYD Seal U has its own design and, like the rest of the range, exudes quality, a trait reflected in elements and details such as the crystal gear-lever knob or the vegan-leather upholstery with contrasting double stitching found on the door panels, centre console, parts of the dashboard and the seats. The front seats are electric, heated and ventilated, all standard. In the rear, the seats can fold in two sections in a 60:40 split to reach a total capacity of 1,440 litres, although the boot already offers a generous 552 litres, all reinforced by various storage compartments.

Technologically, the BYD Seal U is also at the forefront, as shown by the 12.3-inch LCD digital instrument cluster, along with the electrically rotating 12.8 or 15.6-inch touchscreen with 4G connectivity, built-in Spotify, HERE navigation, Android Auto or Apple CarPlay connectivity, and the Hi BYD voice assistant. In addition, the entire system can be permanently updated via OTA updates. To this we add other driving aid and assistance technologies such as forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, rear collision warning and the 360º panoramic camera, among many others.

Mechanically, the BYD Seal U is built on the e-Platform 3.0 for electric vehicles and fits the innovative Blade Battery from BYD, which eliminates nickel and cobalt and uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP). It will be offered in the Comfort and Design trims, each with a different battery capacity: 71.8 kWh with an range of up to 420 km on the combined cycle, and 87 kWh with a range of up to 500 km, also on the combined cycle, respectively. In both cases a permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor is used, producing a maximum output of 218 CV and a torque of 330 Nm sent to the rear axle. Furthermore, regardless of the trim chosen, a heat pump comes as standard.

As standard, the BYD Seal U features an 11 kW three-phase on-board charger capable of ultra-rapid charging at up to 140 kW, which under optimal conditions means it takes about 28 minutes to go from 30% to 80% capacity on its Blade Battery.
The BYD Seal U will be available in Spain from the second half of this same year, with a price the brand has already announced will start at 42,290 euros for the Comfort trim and at 45,790 euros for the Design trim. With promotions and the maximum aid from the Moves III Plan, the Seal U will start at 34,080 euros and 37,580 euros respectively.
