To that end, the DGT and Feneval, the National Business Federation for Car Rental With or Without a Driver, have proposed introducing this digital card.

As you may have guessed, this problem mainly affects rental cars. According to business owners in this sector, some customers rent a car and take it to other countries to re-register and sell it. These cars are usually high-end models, which can bring the thieves greater profit.

This card that identifies the car also provides information about its documentation. Thanks to a QR code, the vehicle’s registration certificate and technical data sheet can be checked. This information is protected by a blockchain platform, so none of the data can be altered.

The user of the rental vehicle will be able to show this digital card to any law enforcement officer who requests it, and will be able to prove their identity, the rental period and the identification of the vehicle. The use of the DNI-Car will also speed up vehicle rental procedures, so its implementation will take place shortly.

If you are wondering whether this will affect you as a private car owner, we must tell you that for the time being it will not be implemented on private cars. That said, this situation is not ruled out, and it is possible that in a few years, once it is fully integrated into the rental sector and proven to work, it will also be extended to the private segment.
