The e.Go Life arrives, an electric city car for European cities
In the years leading up to 2022, many electric vehicle models are emerging, designed to carve out a place in the market alongside the better-known brands

For some time now we have been hearing and reading about electric cars. We know everyone wants electric mobility to be the next evolution of the automotive industry, so we are waiting for the much-anticipated boom in electric cars to arrive and the change to become definitive. Several companies are appearing to offer their own electric car models, trying to find a place in a tough market alongside established brands.
In Germany the start-up e.Go has emerged, a company that has just launched its first electric car, aimed at urban mobility. The brand may not ring a bell, but it is the same team that launched the electric van that Deutsche Post, Germany’s postal service, acquired. After securing financing through that deal, the company partnered with the German spare-parts manufacturer ZF Friedrichshafen, which contributed 135 million euros to the company.

The e.Go Life is an urban electric car that is slightly shorter than a Fiat 500, allowing it to seat four. It does not need a very high range or high performance; it is meant to be comfortable for getting around the city. The entry-level version is the e.Go Life 20, powered by a 14.9 kWh battery. The motor delivers 20 kW, equivalent to 27 CV, which may be modest on the open road but is sufficient for city driving, given the limitations of its streets.

Its claimed range is 121 kilometres, enough to get around town comfortably and easily. The price of this version is 15,900 euros, before subsidies and any other possible offers. Next comes the e.Go 40, equipped with a 12.1 kWh battery and a 40 kW motor, equivalent to 54 CV. Its range is 142 kilometres and its price is 17,400 euros.
The third variant uses a 12.5 kWh battery and a motor rated at 60 kW, that is 80 CV. Its range rises to 184 km and its price is 19,900 euros. The company says it has more than 3,000 orders, so it has suspended reservations until production of the model begins. Production will start in Germany in March 2019 and deliveries will begin in April. The intention of e.Go is to produce 100,000 units a year by 2022, which should reduce costs and make it quite a popular car. Will it be true?
