The engine of the Aston Martin DBX meets the standards of the brand

The heart of the new Aston Martin DBX is a twin-turbo V8 engine, living up to everything a Aston Martin must deliver

And so, we finally know the powerplant that will drive the new SUV from Aston Martin. The British brand’s first crossover will feature a powertrain in line with the brand’s sporting tradition.

That is why, thanks to the engine collaboration and supply between Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG, the engine of the Aston Martin DBX will be the 4-litre, eight-cylinder V-configuration twin-turbo unit of German origin.

Thanks to this agreement, the sustainability of projects such as the first SUV from the Gaydon, Great Britain team is viable. Having the supply of engines that require no in-house development or manufacturing makes it possible to experiment and make critical bets like this one more profitable.

But, returning to the subject of the Aston Martin DBX engine, the British firm has published a video in which you can hear the roar of this sporty-minded SUV, whose exhaust has been tuned, like a musical instrument, to enhance its depth.

Likewise, in this preview of the car they invite you to mark 21 December on your calendar as the official unveiling date of what may become one of the brand’s best-selling vehicles, thanks to the insatiable fashion for crossovers.

This means that, although it will be presented before 2020 arrives, we will be left eager to know whether it could be considered one of the best SUVs of 2019 against rivals such as the Porsche Cayenne Coupé or the Audi Q8.

The merits of the Aston Martin DBX engine

Be that as it may, the powerplant of this new Aston Martin will be the same one that already drives models such as the DB11 or the Vantage. That is why the figures are similar in terms of power and torque.

The 4.0-litre, V8, twin-turbo engine of the Aston Martin DBX is capable of producing 550 CV and up to 700 Nm of torque, an amount that is undoubtedly ideal for allowing owners of these SUVs to tow, for example, boats such as the 41 AMG Carbon Edition yacht with which to enjoy speed on the open sea or, better still, the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR on a track day.

And for those who think this SUV is just a facade or a marketing product far removed from the Aston Martin heritage in competition, the Aston Martin DBX engine will allow it to reach a top speed which, according to the brand’s expectations, exceeds the spectacular figure of 300 km/h.
