The first Range Rover Sport 100% autonomous drive tested in England
Jaguar Land Rover has carried out a test with a Range Rover Sport equipped with level 4 autonomous driving technology around Nuneaton.

Jaguar Land Rover is one of the pioneering manufacturers in autonomous driving, and has now made one of its major goals a reality: putting a 100% autonomous version of one of its models on the road.
The British car group (JLR) has carried out, for the first time, a 100% autonomous driving test with one of its models, albeit on a road that simulates urban traffic conditions.

The test was carried out in Nuneaton with a unit of the Range Rover Sport equipped with a level 4 autonomous driving system, which means the vehicle can drive itself without the driver’s help, although the supervision of a person behind the wheel is still required at this level.
According to Jaguar Land Rover, the vehicle is capable of driving through roundabouts and crossroads and even stopping before a traffic light’s line. The relevant tests were carried out on a track that simulated urban road conditions.

Apparently, Jaguar is developing a series of autonomous driving and connectivity technologies at its Nuneaton test centre. These include Emergency Vehicle Warning (EVW), Intersection Collision Warning (ICW) and the In-Vehicle Signage (IVS) alert; a technology that could replace the vehicles’ interior cameras in order to recognise traffic signs and inform the driver of them.
Vehicle cameras often misread road signage, but the IVS system uses a road data transmission that is more reliable and guarantees that the information is correct.
The British group already equips its models with level 2 and 3 autonomous driving technology, which allows its cars to drive autonomously on motorways at certain times.
