Ford Mustang Mach-E Electric Cars SUV
The Ford Mustang Mach-E outsells the combustion-engine Mustang. Are times of change coming?
The Ford Mustang has been one of the most important ‘muscle cars’ in the American market, but now its time seems to be running out and the electric SUV is winning out.

The reign of the muscle car seems to have ended for good in the United States. Several years ago, production of the Dodge Challenger and the Chevrolet Camaro stopped, so only one model of this kind remains on the American market. It is the Ford Mustang, a car that carries on despite sales figures in recent years that call its continuity into question.
And for the first time, the electric version of the model has managed to outsell the original. While the conventional Mustang has experienced its worst sales year in its history, the electric SUV has seen its sales grow every year.

The decline of the Mustang
The Ford Mustang had very low sales in 2022, of just 47,566 units sold. In 2023 it was crowned the best-selling muscle car, but sales were only 48,605 units, barely more than the previous year. And in 2024, sales have fallen alarmingly.
The figures show that only 44,003 units have been sold, 9.5% fewer than the previous year. So 2025 looks worrying for the model, while Ford has not presented any contingency plan to stop sales from continuing to fall. However, the electric model is enjoying great sales success, and its sales rise every year.

In 2022 it registered 40,771 units sold, while in 2023 it reached 51,745 units. A considerable increase that has got buyers interested in this model. A good move has been the creation of incentives for dealerships, which has undoubtedly helped sales become more active.
Mach-E sales even surpassed other models from the brand, such as the Ranger, which sold 46,026 units, and the F-150 Lightning, which sold 33,510 units. It also outsold other Lincoln models, which shows the American brand’s success with the launch of this SUV.
Certainly, the Ford Mustang E has been a sales success, but there are models with much higher sales, such as the Ford Explorer, which has recorded sales of 109,172 units. But the model that has surpassed even the Explorer is one we don’t know in Europe. It is the pick-up Maverick, which reached 131,142 units during 2024.
