The Ford Mustang once again crowns itself the best-selling sports car in the world

Ford continues to rack up successes with the Ford Mustang, a model that once again boasts of being the best-selling sports car in the world.

The sports car segment is one of the most complex, owing to the characteristics of its representatives. On the one hand, they are high-maintenance vehicles, with a firm general setup that makes them unsuitable for everyday use and entails a considerable outlay. However, there are brands capable of rounding out the formula with a value for money that is extraordinarily unusual within the segment in which they compete. Irrefutable proof of this is Ford, a brand that has achieved glory with the ever-popular Ford Mustang.

In 2015, the brand with the oval badge decided to sell its iconic muscle car across the rest of the world, and it was not mistaken. Since then, the Mustang has been crowned the best-selling sports car in the world on several occasions, something possible because it offers a great deal for very little money, provided we are aware of the segment in which it competes.

We must not forget that Ford also chose to offer a more restrained variant with the EcoBoost badge, which seemed the most logical option on continents such as Europe. However, the brand recently ended its sale because the Ford Mustang GT, the top-of-the-range version, usurped the place of its smaller sibling in terms of sales.

We must not forget that we are talking about a car that hides beneath its bonnet a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine capable of producing 450 CV. Despite its performance, which can be acquired for a really attractive outlay, Ford managed to register a total of 80,577 units sold worldwide in 2020, which translates into 15.1% of the sports coupé market, compared with 14.8% the previous year.

Specifically, in Spain the Ford Mustang led the market share in its segment with 55.8%. In addition, the American sports car also saw significant sales growth in countries such as Hungary, the Netherlands, Denmark, the Czech Republic and Austria, further evidence of its unconditional success despite the challenging times ahead for vehicles of the Mustang’s kind.

In this way, Ford and its Mustang once again take the title of best-selling sports car in the world, a clear sign that the company was right to sell its legendary model everywhere. Whatever the case, and regardless of the future that awaits the Ford Mustang, it will always be an icon.
