The Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R is being updated, taking the GT500 as its reference.

At the beginning of this year Ford showed us the new Mustang Shelby GT500, a true exercise in design and engineering by the people at Ford Performance, which ultimately resulted in a spectacular vehicle fitted with the most powerful V8 in the brand’s history. Its smaller brother, the Mustang Shelby GT350R will also go under the scalpel of Ford Performance for its update, for which they have taken the GT500 as their precise reference.

Externally, as you can see, the Mustang Shelby GT350R will be very similar to the GT500, although we will find certain differences, such as the simpler front splitter, a rear spoiler that is not as prominent but equally striking and fitting perfectly with the whole, the new design for the rear diffuser or, also, the standard carbon fibre wheels. There will also be new colours for its bodywork: Grabber Lime, Twister Orange, Iconic Silver and Red Hot Metallic.

If we go inside the Mustang Shelby GT350R we will also find small differences compared with the GT500, although these will not be very significant. It should be said that it will come as standard with the FordPass Connect technology, with which we can carry out various actions using our smartphone, such as seeing where we parked our car, opening or locking the doors, checking fuel or oil levels and even receiving alerts about upcoming maintenance tasks. Optionally, a technology package can be fitted, which includes the B&O Play premium sound system with 12 speakers, voice-controlled navigation, lights projecting the Cobra logo and blind-spot warning with cross-traffic alert.

But perhaps the most interesting aspect, and the one its future owners will focus on most, will be the mechanical updates the Mustang Shelby GT350R receives. In this section we find new parameters for the suspension geometry, which has been redesigned, together with a new steering rack as well as the power steering settings taken directly from the GT500.

Its heart, as in its bigger brother, will be the new 5,200 cc V8 engine, although for the GT350R with a lower output that is by no means negligible: it will have 526 CV together with a torque of 582 Nm. Another important difference from the GT500 is that on the Mustang Shelby GT350R we can only choose a six-speed manual gearbox, which for the purists will surely be the most sensible option for this vehicle.
