The Honda Civic 2022 concept car previews the new model for 2021

The eleventh generation of the Honda Civic has been unveiled. Set to go on sale from 2021, it will bring a drastic redesign, according to the manufacturer.

Although it is described as a concept car, the Honda Civic 2022 presented by the brand is effectively a pre-production model which, judging by the images shown, we can practically confirm is the final design of the eleventh generation of the Japanese model.

The model on display shows an evolution, perhaps a softening, of the one still sold at dealerships and which, as we understand it, will give way over the course of 2021 to the new generation.

A new generation which, judging by its front view, appears to derive in a measured way from the current one, but whose rear takes on a more classic look, leaving behind the complex web of lines and polygonal puzzle that the Honda Civic has featured since 2015, a design that has always been, and remains, a matter of debate and no unanimous aesthetic verdict.

One step back to take two steps forward

In this way, the mould is also adapted to current demands, and, in the words of the firm: “The eleventh-generation Civic will build on that appeal with a new chassis that is even sportier and more fun to drive, more powerful and efficient powertrains, multiple new features and technologies for the Civic, and further advances in active and passive safety and performance.” In other words, it will build on what is good, evolve, and refine what could be improved, suggesting that it will indeed embrace electrification for its mechanics.

In fact, beyond the interpretations that this conceptual step forward brings aesthetically, the manufacturer announces and describes its interior as a drastic change. A design built from scratch, based on a combination of clean lines and shapes intended to enhance comfort, ergonomics and visibility, all wrapped, it is promised, in an avant-garde aura while immersed in new technologies.

Presented in its bodywork as a compact saloon, the Japanese firm announces that the new Honda Civic will be sold globally as a saloon, hatchback, Si and Type R. The definitive version to leave the assembly lines and the range for each regional market will be announced shortly before its commercial launch, which suggests it will happen during the first half of next year, 2021.
