New Civic Type R Prototype breaks cover in Paris

After we saw at the Tokyo Motor Show the prototype of the most powerful and dynamic version of the Civic, the engineers have worked hard to refine the details of the Civic Type R so that it becomes a production model and begins its commercial career. It will be at the next Geneva Motor Show, which takes place in a few weeks in the Swiss city, where this production version of the sporty variant of the model will be presented.

This has been developed in parallel with the base model, the five-door Civic. It shares the same proportions in its size with this variant, but its specifications allow it to compete in the same league as the Ford Focus RS and the Volkswagen Golf R, to name two examples. And this affects not only the image, which will surely be very close to what we saw in the prototype, but also its engine.

The exact engine specifications are not known, but it is known that it will be the 2.0-litre turbocharged VTEC petrol engine, which will most likely be an updated version that could deliver more power than the 306 CV it currently offers. After it has been presented at the Geneva Motor Show, production will move to the brand’s plant in Swindon, and from this summer production will begin of the model.

From this plant the model will be manufactured and exported to other markets, such as the Japanese and American markets, for example. This model will not be the only novelty Honda will present at the Swiss event. From the last CES, held this past January in Las Vegas, comes the NeuV (New Electric Urban Vehicle) Concept, which offers good range and interesting applications for its battery. The Clarity Fuel Cell will also have its place, arriving on the European market at the end of this year.
