The Hummer EV will be handed over to the United States Army in 2022
After several years off the market, the Hummer EV is back and, unlike what happened with its predecessor, it will serve as the basis for a military vehicle in 2022.

In the 1990s, a military vehicle began service that was so successful it became a benchmark for civilian users too. The Humvee passed through the hands of GM, the manufacturer, and ended up becoming the Hummer H1, a luxury off-roader designed for drivers who had no problem affording the 6.5-litre turbocharged V8 diesel engine.
The Hummer H1 gave way to the H2, and the H2 to the H3, which was the same vehicle but in a more manageable size. In this way, those who wanted to feel the adrenaline rush of getting behind the wheel of a vehicle like this could do so. Now the exact opposite is going to happen, with the possibility of turning the road version of the Hummer EV into a military vehicle.

According to several American media outlets, General Motors is working on converting the road model, which has not yet been presented, to adapt its characteristics to everything the army demands. To do so, they will change part of the vehicle’s appearance, and the military electric Hummer is expected to be very different from the vehicle that has already been presented and that we know.
That said, it will be built on the same platform as this one, and several of its components too. In fact, according to what we know so far, it will use the same battery pack and powertrain as the civilian version.
Internally, General Motors refers to this military vehicle as eLRV (electric Light Reconnaissance Vehicle), which in Spanish would mean Vehículo eléctrico Ligero de Reconocimiento. The United States Department of Defense wants to apply this type of vehicle to its fleet, and there is even talk of fully electrifying all army vehicles.
This will not happen for now, since infrastructure problems in military deployments are quite complex and it will be difficult to carry it out with the speed they need. For the moment, it seems that next year they will be able to test this prototype and check its capabilities in the field, and after that we will see how the project evolves.
