The Hyundai Ioniq 6 offers a range of up to 610 kilometres according to the WLTP cycle. Shall we get to know it a little better?

The new Hyundai Ioniq 6 is here to challenge convention. The brand unveiled the saloon a few weeks ago and is now releasing some of its specifications, as well as additional details about one of the most elegant electric vehicles on the market.

Jumping straight to the numbers, the entry variant features a 53 kWh battery pack and a rear-mounted electric motor. Although not confirmed, it could possibly deliver 218 CV of power and an energy consumption of less than 14 kWh/100 km according to the WLTP cycle. This could make the Ioniq 6 one of the most energy-efficient electric vehicles on the market.

In addition, you will also be able to purchase a version that uses a 77.4 kWh battery pack, allowing it to travel more than 610 kilometres on a single charge. It also represents a 100 km increase over the Ioniq 5. This improvement is due to a variety of factors, including efforts to improve efficiency, as well as a low drag coefficient of 0.21.

Everything you need to know about the Hyundai Ioniq 6

The long-range Ioniq 6 will be offered with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, and there will be a dual-motor variant producing a combined output of 325 CV and 605 Nm of peak torque. Those figures may not seem particularly remarkable, but they will allow the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.

On the subject of performance, the Ioniq 6 features an “EV Performance Tuning” system. It’s a bit like a customisable driving mode, as it allows owners to “freely adjust steering effort, motor output, accelerator pedal sensitivity and transmission mode” with a few taps on the infotainment system. It’s nice to see this, and it’s no surprise that the Ioniq 6 runs on the E-GMP architecture. The latter is the foundation of the Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, as well as the upcoming Ioniq 7.

The Ioniq 6 supports 400 V and 800 V charging, which is notable since 800 V technology is largely limited to premium electric vehicles. A 350 kW DC fast charger will allow the car to go from 10 to 80% charge in just 18 minutes. Returning to the Ioniq 6’s most eye-catching feature, its exterior design includes “clean, simple lines and a pure aerodynamic shape that the Hyundai designers describe as Emotional Efficiency”.

In terms of size, the Ioniq 6 measures 4855 mm in length, 1880 mm in width and 1495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2950 mm. That means the car is 46 mm shorter than the Sonata, despite having a wheelbase 107 mm longer.
