The Land Rover Defender is coming: more than 600 CV of power

At this point in the year the rumours are starting to arrive, anticipating news that will become reality (or not) in a few months’ time. One of these anticipations, which we must remember are not certainties, has been provided by MotorTrend and has spread like wildfire. And no wonder, because the star of this story is the Land Rover Defender, a model that is a benchmark among off-road enthusiasts.

A few months ago the British company presented the Land Rover Defender V8, which quickly became a highly notable model and sits at the top of the range. But it seems the company does not intend to stop there and is working on a more powerful variant with greater equipment, according to information that has appeared in the press.

New engine, more power

If the Land Rover Defender was already a good idea for getting a capable off-roader with a fairly substantial and attractive engine, the new Defender being prepared meets all the expectations placed on it. The supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine that delivers 525 CV and a maximum torque of 625 Nm and powers the Defender V8 is set to be replaced, according to this information, by a smaller unit.

It will include an engine, also a V8 and turbocharged, but of 4.4 litres. Despite this smaller size, power is expected to reach 600 CV, and a maximum torque figure that has not been revealed but which will surpass the previous one. With this new engine, the Defender will be able to reach 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds and go on to 240 km/h.

As for the exterior, nothing has been revealed, but we assume that if the project goes ahead, more design details will be confirmed. It is expected to be sportier and to be fitted with a suspension system with larger anti-roll bars, among other things. It needs to be something much more interesting to justify this new variant, so they are sure to surprise us.

Above all, it must be remembered that this is a rumour or, at most, a preview of news that may be made public after the summer. For now, we are putting it on hold, but we are very eager for it to become reality, because seeing a new Defender in action is always a pleasure.
