The Land Rover Discovery Sport in 60 photos and a video

After several small teasers of the new Land Rover Discovery Sport, we can finally see an extensive image gallery and a video about the launch of this compact SUV, which arrives to replace the Freelander and will reach the market later this year.

The new Land Rover Discovery Sport, the brand’s most important novelty for next year, is getting closer to being seen live and in person. It will finally be shown at the Paris Motor Show, which, as every year, takes place in October.

This will be the platform where it is presented, but for a few months now we have been seeing small previews of what this new model will be, one that will burst onto the scene to take over the range of off-roaders that the brand is most associated with. And after many clues in the form of images, we have a good image gallery and even a video to see the details of the car.

The new Land Rover Discovery Sport will compete against the Audi Q5, the BMW X3 and the Mercedes Benz GLK, so it must offer a series of specifications that make it a worthy rival to these luxury compact SUVs.

The 5+2 seating layout sets it apart from its direct rivals and gives it a feature that they do not have. The second row of seats offers 50 mm more space than the first row of passengers, which gives them extra comfort.

This model arrives to replace the Land Rover Freelander, but it does so with style. It increases in size to 4,590 mm (an increase of 91 mm), and the wheelbase also grows by 80 mm to 2,741 mm, which provides somewhat more extra space in the cabin.

On the outside it has a less futuristic look than the one shown at the New York Motor Show, where the Land Rover Discovery Vision concept, on which this model is based, was unveiled. Inside we see a centre console that reminds us of the Range Rover Evoque, but with a more upright position. It also features Wi-Fi connectivity and an infotainment system controlled through an eight-inch screen.

In the European market the Land Rover Discovery Sport will offer a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine, available with all-wheel drive and either a nine-speed automatic gearbox or a six-speed manual. This engine delivers 187 CV, and over the coming months a version with single-axle drive will be announced, which will reduce emissions to 119 g/km.
