The Mercedes GLS 2020 is previewed in images ahead of the New York Auto Show

The Mercedes GLS has been spotted on the road under quite a lot of camouflage, so it was not easy to see clearly what this new version of a powerful, large SUV would bring. Luckily, we have been able to see some images thanks to Almuraba and other sources that have been publishing the first pictures of this model. And we have been able to see that Mercedes wants to position itself against similar models, such as the BMW X7.

This means having the image of a powerful, large, high-end SUV so that buyers feel comfortable and can drive a spectacular car. The size of this model is disguised by the elegant lines that form part of the brand’s current design language. The Mercedes GLS clearly takes its cues from the Mercedes GLE, although it has a more muscular look than its smaller sibling.

The Mercedes GLS features chrome details, and at the rear it has LED lights of a similar, light and streamlined design. The resemblance to the Mercedes GLE does not stop at the exterior; the interior also shares similarities and parallels with it. The digital instrument cluster and the central screen give the cabin an up-to-date, more modern look, and it also uses quality materials.

The interior benefits from the increased wheelbase, which adds 60 mm and brings the total to 3,137 mm, allowing the space to grow accordingly. As for the engines that this new version of the Mercedes GLS will get, the model will be offered with all the engines available in the GLE. In addition, a Mild Hybrid version, a 48-volt mild hybrid, will be added.

Looking at the AMG versions, these will feature the 4.0-litre V8 engine with twin turbos. All models will come with a 9-speed automatic gearbox. There will also be a Maybach version, more luxurious, with a bumper designed specifically for it, as well as a different grille and exclusive wheels.
