The MINI Cooper S E Countryman PHEV, now with greater range in electric mode

New higher-capacity battery for the Mini Cooper S E Countryman plug-in hybrid, which reaches 55 km of range in electric mode.

Mini arrives at the Frankfurt Motor Show with two news items that are “plug-in”. On the one hand, the new MINI Cooper SE will debut. Besides its technical specifications, we have also shared the prices in Spain for the fully electric Mini.

Another novelty that we find particularly interesting is the Mini Cooper S E Countryman ALL4. In the road test of the Mini Countryman plug-in hybrid we already explained the many virtues of this model, and why it is one of the most interesting options in the Mini range.

More range in EV mode and lower consumption for the Mini hybrid

Now, this model receives a technical update that increases its electric-mode range by 30 percent. And it does so without changing the size of the new-generation high-voltage battery, which goes from 7.7 to 10 kWh of capacity. Positioned under the rear seats to save space, the charging time from a domestic socket is about five hours, and three hours and fifteen minutes using a wallbox.

The new battery allows an electric-mode range of between 55 and 57 km, compared with 41 km for the previous version. And as we verified in the test, the Mini Cooper S E Countryman moves with great agility in traffic without consuming petrol. It also affects the homologated consumption, which drops by around 20%. The Mini plug-in hybrid now has a homologated combined consumption from 1.9 l/100 km, with CO2 emissions of 43 g/km.

Power remains at 224 CV, as does the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration, which the Mini completes in 6.8 seconds. It also naturally keeps all the advantages granted by the DGT ZERO emissions label. What we still don’t know is whether the Mini will keep its price with the incorporation of this higher-capacity battery.
