The new BMW Z4 around the corner: this is how the future German sports car rolls under camouflage

BMW continues finalising the details of its new creation, the Z4. This successful sports car returns from the brand’s hands to conquer the track and the road.

The evolution of car makers affects all the models within their range and, sooner or later, they introduce a considerable number of improvements. The Z surname within BMW has been an icon for generations and, over time, the legacy has been passing from model to model. The third generation of the BMW Z4 is about to go into action but, before that, the brand has wanted to show us what its most acclaimed sports car is capable of, even wearing camouflage over its bodywork.

BMW is finalising every detail ahead of the official presentation of the new Z4 but, in the meantime, they have given us these photos of a test mule in its final phase running at full speed. As is customary in the German brand’s Z range, we will find a two-seater, convertible, front-engined, rear-wheel-drive vehicle, a set of elements that come together to offer a high degree of driving fun, and on this occasion it was not going to be any different.

However, before giving the starting signal and allowing the new Z4 to begin winning hearts, the brand has travelled to the south of France to continue refining its latest creation. The German sports car has moved to the Miramas circuit, where one of BMW’s test centres is located , and there they have been able to carry out a thorough study of the Z4’s capabilities on track.

In this way, BMW has been able to analyse the Z4’s dynamics thoroughly, not only in the most adverse conditions but also when our sportier side comes to the fore at the wheel of this latest addition. Furthermore, and despite the camouflage, we can make out some features of the new Z4, such as its front end, where a finer and sharper design has been applied with the aim of making a clear difference from the previous generation.

This design language can also be seen at the rear, where the tail lights continue with that new philosophy that insists on offering more aggressive and sporty lines with elegance. At the same time, this renewed design does not come alone, since BMW has made some statements about its mechanics , an aspect that is perfectly coordinated with the exterior design.

BMW has confirmed that we will initially find a variant called the Z4 M40i, which will mark the steps towards an even more radical engine where the spotlight will fall directly on the “M” name. Meanwhile, the German brand has promised a genuine sports car under the Z4 M40i nomenclature, which will hide a six-cylinder inline engine accompanied by lowered sports suspension with electronically controlled dampers, a newly developed front axle, M lightweight alloy wheels, an M sports braking system and an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential.

The arrival of the new Z4 is imminent, but BMW has wanted to make sure that every last detail is adjusted and ready to challenge both the road and the track. For now we do not know the official dates, but the German brand has shared a series of photographs that will help us get an idea of what the final result of all this period of work and effort by BMW will look like.
