The new Ford Edge is now available in Europe

With the arrival of the Ford Edge, the oval-badged brand expands its available SUV range. The offer starts with the Ford EcoSport, continues with the Ford Kuga and now culminates with the Ford Edge as the top of the range. This type of car is increasingly in demand, so Ford thus covers the needs of different customers.

It is equipped with intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD) from Ford, switching from front-wheel drive to all-wheel drive depending on road conditions and imperceptibly to the driver. The system can send up to 100% of the engine torque to the front or rear wheels, delivering it only where and when it is needed.

New systems and technologies are also present in this new model. It includes, among others, adaptive steering, which automatically optimises the steering response according to vehicle speed, and the split front-view camera which makes visibility easier at junctions or in difficult parking spaces.

As a novelty in its segment, the Ford Edge introduces the pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection. It is a system based on a camera and a radar that operates at speeds from 8 km/h up to 180 km/h to detect vehicles and people on the road. If it detects a risk of collision and the driver does not respond to the warnings, the system can apply the brakes automatically.

All Edge models are equipped with active noise control technology. It detects unwanted engine noise inside the cabin and cancels it by emitting opposing sound waves from the car’s audio system. Elements such as the acoustic windscreen glass, laminated glass for the driver’s and front passenger’s windows, and the lower body panels and wheel arch liners help minimise road and wind noise.

If the exterior design is fluid and elegant, the interior follows the same line. Finishes in high-quality materials are present throughout most of the cabin. It includes soft-touch materials on the dashboard and centre console, piano black trims on the controls and a satin silver metallic finish for the door handles, air vent surrounds, glovebox lid and steering wheel details.

The Ford Edge is available with two diesel engine variants: the 180 PS 2.0 TDCi combined with a six-speed manual gearbox, and the 210 PS biturbo TDCi with a six-speed PowerShift automatic transmission.
