The new generation of the Toyota Prius, unveiled: a whimsical design for cutting-edge technology

Nobody can deny the pioneering profile of the Toyota Prius, the most popular hybrid vehicle in history since its launch in 1997.
The fourth generation of the Prius will be presented in a few days, but the first images are already circulating online, revealing a very distinctive exterior look.
Toyota currently sells the third generation of the Prius in two different body styles: the traditional “Prius” and the more family-oriented variant “Prius+”. Although they feature profiles that have evolved considerably from the original model, the lines of the current Prius models remain fully recognisable.
Toyota has decided to enter the fray with a fourth generation that is much more aggressive and eye-catching. Although the photographs we have are neither the best nor the highest quality, they are enough to give us an idea of the design of the new Prius.
The bodywork has changed completely; not a single panel or part is shared with previous models. The front stands out above all for its headlights, with much sharper shapes. With three points, the headlights extend almost to the central logo and the front fog lights, also running along the wings.

The side profile and rear look similar to those of the Mirai, the new electric Toyota model powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. The waistline, with a more pronounced upward slope than ever, merges into the rear, which keeps the split-window tailgate of earlier generations.
The rear light clusters abandon the rectangular lines of the previous generation, taking on an arrow shape and running down into the bumper.
Inside, we have no information yet, although an evolution of the current design is expected, with better materials and systems inherited from other models, such as the touch-sensitive climate control module and the infotainment system, both inherited from the current Auris and Avensis.
