The new Hyundai Ioniq arrives in the Spanish market with its improvements

Hyundai begins marketing the new Ioniq in Spain, which will be offered in hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions

The Hyundai Ioniq reached various markets in 2016, a year that now seems distant to us. Offered in hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions, this versatile eco-friendly vehicle from the South Korean brand has managed to put more than 60,000 units on the roads. Now it is its turn to be renewed, with new technology and a refreshed design, which we can now enjoy on the Spanish market.

The aesthetic changes to the new Hyundai Ioniq focus mainly on the front end, where we can see a new grille, which will be closed on the electric version, featuring a new specific design pattern. This has also been used to modify the bumper and give it a more refined look, for which a silver trim and details around the LED daytime running lights on the sides have been included. The front LED light unit also presents a new look, as does the rear LED light unit, together with the anthracite-coloured trim added to the bumper.

Until now, Hyundai offered the Ioniq with a palette of five colours, to which four new colours are now added: Fluidic Metal, Electric Shadow, Liquid Sand and Typhoon Silver. It should also be said that, for the plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions, 16-inch wheels with a new design will be available.

Inside, there are also changes in several areas, starting with the introduction of a new 10.25-inch touchscreen for the infotainment and navigation system, offered as an option, although as standard it will already feature a 7-inch screen that has been improved. In addition, to give it a more elegant touch, Hyundai has installed blue ambient lighting in the new Ioniq for the lower part of the dashboard on both the passenger side and the centre console.

As with the body colour, Hyundai has also paid attention to the upholstery of the Ioniq’s seats. These will be fitted as standard in Fossil Grey fabric, but as an option we can choose leather upholstery, offered in four different colours, some of them exclusive to the chosen model: Fossil Grey, Shale Grey, Red Umber (hybrid and plug-in hybrid only) and Electric Shadow (electric version only).

To all this we must add the latest developments in driving systems and aids, some of them fitted as standard in the Hyundai SmartSense package, such as forward collision assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection, driver fatigue warning, lane keeping assist and high beam assist. Optionally, there are also several systems available that complete the standard offer.

But as we have already mentioned, the most important change is perhaps to be found in the electric version of the Ioniq, not precisely in its 136 CV electric motor and 295 Nm, but in its battery, which now becomes 38.3 kWh, resulting in 36% more capacity and a range that increases to 311 km. Its standard on-board charger is now 7.2 kW for Type 2 AC charging, meaning that at a 100 kW fast-charging station we can recharge up to 80% of the battery capacity in 54 minutes.

On the other hand, both the hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions feature a 1,600 cc petrol engine delivering 105 CV, combined with an electric motor with 43.5 CV, resulting in a combined power of 141 CV and a torque of 265 Nm, paired with a sporty six-speed dual-clutch transmission.

As I was saying, all three versions of the Hyundai Ioniq are now available on the Spanish market, with prices starting at 22,845 euros for the hybrid version, from 30,025 euros for the plug-in hybrid version, and from 34,375 euros for the fully electric version.
