The MG4, a real revelation in the Spanish market thanks to its sales success, to the point of becoming the best-selling electric car in some months so far this year -it currently holds second place in the cumulative figures to May-, receives a slight update and announces new versions. But best of all, the improvements do not mean price changes, which remains one of the main assets of this electric compact.

Optimised fast charging and more equipment

These improvements mainly concern equipment, adding from the standard version, with a 51 kWh battery, a power of 125 kW and a range of 350 km, 17-inch wheels, three rear headrests, a rear wiper, interior grab handles, the One Pedal Drive function and more efficient direct current charging, which slightly reduces the time to charge from 10 to 80% capacity to 37 minutes (Standard version).

MG values these equipment improvements at 900 euros, but the price of the entry-level MG4 remains at 30,690 euros, which with the Moves 3 Plan (scrapping a car as part of the trade-in) and the MG discount drops to 20,480 euros. Without a doubt, there is no other electric car on the market with similar features at a comparable price, which with all the aid can indeed be considered an alternative to similar combustion-engined cars.

Other equipment improvements are the new route planner (it takes into account the battery’s state of charge and the real-time availability of charging points) and the 18-inch wheels, which become standard on the Luxury version with a 150 kW motor and a 64 kWh battery, which promises a range of 435 km. Its price? 37,190 euros without discounts, which drops to 26,980 euros when applying all the possible purchase aids and the brand discount. In the middle of the range sits the MG4 Comfort, also with 150 kW and a 450 km battery, priced at 24,980 euros with discounts and Moves (list price: 35,190 euros).

With the arrival of these versions, MG takes the opportunity to launch a promotion for the MY22 units still in stock, cutting the price by 1,000 euros. This places the standard MG4 at a price from 19,480 euros.

New Long Range and X-Power versions

Alongside these improvements, MG announces the arrival of two new versions of the MG4, which will be available this year.

On the one hand, the MG4 Long Range promises a range of up to 520 km, thanks to a 77 kWh battery. In this case the motor power reaches 180 kW, allowing the MG4 Long Range to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, almost 1.5 seconds faster than the versions with the 64 kWh battery and 150 kW of power. Compared with the Luxury trim, which already includes a heat pump, rear spoiler, electric heated seats, 360-degree camera and the most complete driver-assistance package, the Long Range adds two-tone paint and the maximum direct current charging power rises slightly from 140 to 144 kW.

Finally, the MG4 X-Power, with a 64 kWh battery, uses a second electric motor to reach a maximum system power of 320 kW, with an announced 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h. This genuine electric “GTI” will feature exclusive 18-inch wheels, a sport pack, launch control and even a specific “Track” driving mode for the circuit. In addition to the current colours, a new option will be added to this sporty version: the so-called Hunter Green.
