The new Peugeot 108 is here, the latest addition to the 100 series

In 1972 the Peugeot 104 hit the market, the one that would become the first of the 100 series, which will receive its final update in the coming weeks with the launch of the Peugeot 108. This model was sold from that year onward in several versions, such as the coupé that arrived in 1974 or a saloon version launched in 1976.
Initially, it used a 1.0-litre petrol engine, just like the new Peugeot 108, which also uses an engine of this displacement, but of course with more up-to-date technology and greater performance, as well as much lower consumption and emissions than the original model.
Over time, the Peugeot 104 was replaced by the Peugeot 205, but the 100 series family gained a new member with the presentation of the Peugeot 106 in 1991. This model measured 3,560 mm in length and 1,520 mm in width, and was offered as a three-door and a five-door. The 106 also accepted diesel engines, and 2.5 million units were built over its commercial life.
In 2004 the Peugeot 106 disappeared, but the 107 arrived, a model that confirmed the manufacturer’s idea was heading in the right direction and that introduced a new member to the 100 family, breaking the notion that this 100 series had to stay within the B segment. It was the first in the range to enter as a city car, classified in the A segment.
In October the Peugeot 108 will arrive, bringing together everything learned from each of these models and becoming the natural successor to them. The Peugeot 108 will be offered with just two engine options: a three-cylinder 1.0 petrol unit delivering 68 CV, available with a manual or automatic gearbox, and a 1.2 PureTech with 82 CV.
Its proportions are suited to the urban environment, with a length of 3.47 metres and a width of 1.62 metres. Its turning circle is 4.80 metres, ideal for city driving. In addition, its boot has a capacity of 180 litres with the spare wheel fitted. Folding down the rear seats increases capacity to 750 litres.
