The new Subaru WRX STI in detail, ahead of its arrival in Spain

Next May we will see the launch of the new Subaru WRX STI in Spain. The price will not be made official until May 5th, but we already know the only version we will have in our country. It will be called “Sport Plus” and will be the most fully equipped version.
The Subaru WRX STI features a 2.5-litre turbocharged boxer engine with variable valve timing, delivering 300 CV and 407 Nm, reaching 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds, with a top speed of 255 km/h and a combined consumption of 10.4 l/100 km. This model also incorporates a host of improvements to key elements: the power steering is much more precise and quicker, going from 2.8 to 2.5 turns, the suspension has been redesigned, reinforced and stiffened, reducing body roll by 16 per cent, and the chassis has gained 40 per cent more rigidity without increasing its weight, which remains at 1,507 kilos.
As for its exterior design, the most novel elements are its hexagonal grille and the narrow, elongated front headlights, which incorporate LED technology in the low and daytime running lights. Other distinguishing features are its air intake, the new 18-inch dark grey alloy wheels, which are stiffer and lighter, its lightweight spoiler and a diffuser with two double exhaust outlets, all of which together give it a very racing look.

Inside, the cabin offers a modern design with carbon-effect finishes and inserts and STI details, including an illuminated logo, heated bucket seats, adjustable headrests and a sporty electroluminescent instrument cluster with a 3.5-inch LCD screen.. Other notable details include the increased rear-seat headroom, boot capacity expanded to 460 litres and asymmetrically split-folding rear seats.
To conclude, as is customary, the WRX STI features permanent symmetrical all-wheel drive, delivering all the power on any surface with extra grip. In addition, the people at the Japanese brand have included two effective systems that let the driver adapt the car’s behaviour to their preferences. These systems are DCCD: Driver Control Centre Differential, which allows the torque split between the axles to be configured via the limited-slip centre differential, and SI Drive, which lets you choose between three types of engine response.
