New details are beginning to emerge about the second generation of the Audi A7. It is not actually expected to arrive before 2017, but leaks and confirmations from Audi have already begun, and a long wait lies ahead before we learn all the details of the second generation of this coupé-style saloon. A few weeks ago a rumour emerged that the next A7 would lose the popular coupé-style sloping roofline that made it famous, in favour of a more curvaceous body.

For now, this rumour has neither been confirmed nor denied, but we are starting to learn some new points about its exterior design. On the one hand, we know that the body will grow in dimensions and that its height will be reduced slightly. These changes are strongly influenced by the Audi Prologue Concept, a design by March Lichte, who now has the difficult task of creating new designs for the Ingolstadt-based firm and has already promised greater differentiation between the brand’s models.

According to Automobile magazine, the second generation of the Audi A7 will combine subtle elegance with extroverted sportiness. Returning to the report, it indicates that the next A7 will have a greater visual presence and will provide a high level of craftsmanship combined with active aerodynamic aids and a reinterpreted one-piece front grille. It also refers to reinterpreted LED headlights at the front and more pronounced bumpers, while the interior will receive new buttons and indicators, as well as a new infotainment system with a touchscreen.

In terms of mechanicals, the engine range will be updated, featuring a new 2.0-litre, four-cylinder in-line engine with e-turbo technology (electric turbo) delivering up to 326 CV of maximum power, while the Audi S7 will reach 500 CV thanks to an updated 3.0-litre turbocharged V6. At the top of the range, the RS7 will keep the 4.0-litre V8 TFSI but improve on its current output of 570 CV.

The most efficient engine options within the second generation of the Audi A7 will consist of a powerful 350 CV V6 diesel engine and a plug-in hybrid combining a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, accompanied by a second option with a V6 engine.
