With the ProPILOT driver assistance system, the small electric city car will be able to drive safely on motorways, controlling steering and braking

Driver assistance systems are increasingly present in new models, but they are also gradually arriving in others that have been on the market for some time. What matters is that journeys become safer and that the driver can count on help to drive more efficiently and, above all, more safely. One model that includes this kind of added safety is the Nissan LEAF, the small electric city car from Nissan that now incorporates the ProPILOT system.

This technology will help the driver move with greater freedom on long motorway journeys, allowing the car to stay in a lane without the driver having to touch the steering wheel. The system takes care of managing steering, acceleration and braking during long trips or in heavy traffic conditions, supporting the driver in those moments of greater stress behind the wheel.

Imagine always being on the right path

This system will keep adding functions over the coming years, during which it will become increasingly autonomous and offer more features. It is expected that in the near future it will be able to operate in urban driving conditions, which are more complex than motorway driving. This system, like others being developed by several brands, as we saw not long ago, aims to assist the driver rather than create a fully autonomous car. This is a trend that appears to be the new direction for manufacturers which, without abandoning the idea of the autonomous car, seek to increase the safety of their models.

The Nissan LEAF, the most popular electric car on the market, seeks to become the most practical and accessible option available and thereby maintain its leadership in this segment, which has led to sales of around 270,000 units worldwide, with a total distance covered of more than 3 million kilometres. A proposal that will make this small standard-bearer of fully electric mobility an even safer and more efficient car.
