The Opel Ampera, the sister car of the Chevy Volt in Europe, is in the final stages of development and will go on sale in the old continent next year. Gherardo Corsini, GM’s implementation director for Europe, will personally make a test drive behind the wheel of the Ampera, from Russelsheim, Germany, all the way to the Geneva motor show.

The journey, of some 600 kilometres, will serve as a real-world test of the Ampera’s road capabilities. In theory, the range provided by the petrol engine, once the batteries are charged, should allow it to reach its destination without refuelling.

Although the confidence of Opel is high that the Ampera will arrive without faults, it must be remembered that development is not yet one hundred percent complete and that something could happen, according to the same spokespeople for Opel.

The Ampera, the pioneer in travelling the roads of Europe, will begin its journey tomorrow at 9:30 in the morning. For those who are curious to see how the Ampera will manage to arrive, they can follow the journey from here.
