The Renault facilities in Spain are celebrating not only their 40th anniversary, but also the production of their 7 millionth unit.

Automotive manufacturers today usually have several factories spread across the world, with the aim of reaching more markets and carrying out more efficient production. In Spain, several foreign brands have placed their trust in our country by setting up one of their factories, as is the case of Renault. The French company has a plant in Palencia, which has reached 40 years of existence and, at the same time, has produced its 7 millionth unit.

It was in 1978 when the rhombus brand opened the doors of its factory, where hundreds of vehicles were developed and shipped to different parts of the world. At the same time, the presence of Renault in Spain over these 40 years has helped improve the country’s economy and employ thousands of workers in its facilities. However, over time, many things have changed at the Renault Palencia facilities, but what has not changed is the high rate of vehicles manufactured.

A Renault 12 TS Confort in white was the honour of being the first vehicle to leave the gates of Palencia and, after a few years on the assembly line, the French company recorded a total of 20,660 units produced of this model. That was only the beginning for the Valladolid plant, since the company’s clear goal was to expand its facilities and be able to offer the world a wide range of models.

Renault, full of ambition and eagerness to work, managed to achieve that goal, and during its 40 years of existence, up to 13 different models have passed through its production lines. From the Renault 18 to four generations of the Megane have been designed entirely in Palencia, a place that has been presented as the cradle of other iconic models such as the Renault 14, Renault 9, Renault 11, Renault 21 and Renault Laguna, among others.

Just as the Renault 12 fulfilled its mission of inaugurating a factory and becoming part of the history not only of the company but also of the automobile, today a Renault Megane in Iron Blue, equipped with the 130 CV Energy TCe engine, carried out the same task which was responsible for raising the factory’s tally to 7 million vehicles produced.

“The professionalism of the people and their enthusiasm to improve every day guarantee that our plant remains the main engine of local employment, of the Region and an important contributor to the results of the Renault Group and the Alliance.” said the Factory Director, José Martín Vega.

Renault will remember this day with joy, since not only has the Spanish factory been celebrating its anniversary, but it has also produced its 7 millionth unit. Without a doubt, it is a great milestone for the company and, although it has reached a goal, Renault does not plan to stop now and will continue opening frontiers to welcome future models of the brand into its facilities.
