The Peugeot 208 reveals its new design and shows its look for 2024

When a model is halfway through its commercial life, it usually receives an update that puts it back on the starting grid of the market. So it was only a matter of time before the Peugeot 208 unveiled its new design and the facelift that will allow it to remain one of the best-selling models in Europe. Specifically, the best-selling model in Europe in 2022.

It is not a profound change, but rather a facelift, which has modified some of the features of the model at both the front and the rear. These two areas of the model thus move closer to the new design language that the lion brand is applying to its new proposals. In the case of the front, this varies depending on the trim level chosen by the buyer.

These trim levels are Active, Allure and GT. In all three, the daytime running lights feature an image of three long claws, with LED technology. The headlights also use this technology and extend towards the sides of the car. At the rear, the light clusters also simulate the three-claw design, although in this case in a horizontal form.

With the facelift of the Peugeot 208, two new colours have been added to the range: Yellow Agueda and Selenium Grey. In addition, the mirror casings are included in black and, looking at the GT trim, a black roof is added to offer a striking contrast with the bodywork. There are also two wheel sets to choose from, one of 16 and another of 17 inches.

As for the dimensions of this model, it has a length of 4,055 mm, a width of 1,745 mm and a height of 1,430 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,540 mm. The boot has a capacity of 309 litres, so there is more than enough space to meet versatile everyday use.

High-tech interior

In the interior, you will find good technological equipment. In the case of the Allure and GT trims, a 10-inch instrument display is included, while in the entry-level version, the Active keeps the 3.5-inch screen. In the centre, there is a seven-inch screen, which rises to ten inches on the GT.

The information and entertainment system will consist of the Peugeot i-Connect or the Peugeot i-Connect Advanced, depending on the trim level. It is a connected model, so it offers connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also allows access to various online digital services, so you can feel at ease regarding the car’s connectivity.

It also has a 360º camera, USB port and an ambient lighting system. In the case of the GT trim, a new black Alcantara upholstery with green stitching has also been included. The driver has several ADAS systems that assist with driving.

Electrified engines

The first thing we have learnt is that it will no longer be sold with the 100 hp Blue HDi diesel engine and will only be available with petrol and electric engines. The former will come in mild-hybrid MHEV versions, which will help reduce consumption and emissions. The conventional engines will be 1.2-litre PureTech, offering 75 hp. Another variant will increase the power to 100 hp.

As for the two mild hybrids, there will be one with 100 hp and another that rises to 136 hp. Both will be able to run in electric mode, but for a very limited time.

As for the Peugeot e-208, the electric version, it will remain available. It uses a 116 kW motor, equivalent to 156 hp. The 51 kWh lithium-ion battery gives it a range of 400 kilometres on the WLTP cycle. As standard it comes equipped with a 7.2 kW charger, although an 11 kW one can be fitted. On a fast charger it can go from 20% to 80% charge in 30 minutes.

At the moment, reservations are not open, although it is expected that reservations will open in November and the first units will reach their owners a little later. Prices will be announced later.
