Last weekend, at the annual awards ceremony of the British group Autosport, one of the most prestigious among those that bring together the whole world of motorsport, the 208 T16 Pikes Peak received the Rally Car of the Year award. A few days later, on the night of the Top Gear Awards, the Peugeot 208 T16 was once again honoured, this time with the Competition Car of the Year award. This distinction is also one of the most coveted in the industry.

The achievements of the 208 T16 left no one indifferent. It is no small feat to have clocked 8:13.878 on the Pikes Peak hill climb in June. With a brutal power-to-weight ratio of 875 kg / 875 CV, performance similar to, if not better than, that of a Formula 1 car… all of it developed in the workshops of Peugeot Sport in just four months.

These two awards are an incentive for Peugeot Sport, after the bitter taste of not decisively beating Audi in endurance and after several years of effort in the category. They also position the Peugeot 208 as a product of great importance within the brand’s vehicle range.

There is no denying that the prestige earned on the track later translates into better sales of the road models and into the launch of special editions. Peugeot is reportedly putting the final touches on a special version of the 208 GTI, called Pikes Peak, with around 30 additional horsepower, bringing the output of this commemorative version to roughly 230 horsepower.
