The Peugeot 308 Sedan unveiled for the Chinese market

Many novelties were presented these days at the 14th edition of the Beijing Motor Show, although most of them are exclusive to the local market. Just today we told you about the new second-generation Citroën C6 and the Nissan Tiida, similar to the European Pulsar, both destined for the Chinese market.
But on this occasion the star is the Peugeot 308 Sedan you see in the images, and just like Citroën’s C6, it will be sold exclusively in China. In the powerful Chinese market, interior space is of vital importance. Practically all European brands that sell models designed in the old continent there, whether compacts or saloons, stretch the bodywork. Furthermore, since they increase the exterior length, they also add a few centimetres to the wheelbase to improve legroom.
As Peugeot explains in its press release, Peugeot and Dongfeng are immersed in a 5-year strategic development plan for the Chinese market, a plan called “Chine: Blue Upper”. The goal is to place the French lion brand in the global top 10 in sales, and for that it needs this Eastern market. The Peugeot Dongfeng partnership guarantees the launch of 18 new models in China over the next 5 years.

The new Peugeot 308 Sedan, which will go on sale there within a few weeks, has been developed on the EMP2 platform, so it will have a lot in common with the model sold in Europe. However, due to that need for greater legroom we mentioned earlier, they must have added some extra centimetres to the wheelbase, although Peugeot has not confirmed this.
Peugeot also does not provide data on possible engine options, but its press release hints that it will equip the 1.2 PureTech for, as they put it, its high efficiency. We will wait a few more weeks to learn all the details of this three-box, long-wheelbase version of the French compact, which has delivered such good results for the brand in Europe.
