Lap record at Road Atlanta

Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Porsche in North America, stated that “we are delighted to set the production car lap record at this iconic circuit, located just 100 kilometres from the brand’s headquarters in the United States. Atlanta is a track that holds very good memories for Porsche; the victory with the Porsche 911 RSR at Petit Le Mans in 2015 is a case in point”.

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS has just achieved yet another record and was driven by David Donohue, a driver in the Daytona 24 Hours and Le Mans, and by Randy Pobst, a works driver for the brand, who ultimately secured the fast lap.

It is important to highlight that Randy Pobst had already set fast laps with the Porsche GT2 RS at the WeatherTech Laguna Seca and Willow Springs circuits.

David Donohue noted that “it has been an incredible experience. The traction, the tireless brakes, the grip generated by the aerodynamic downforce, the tyres and, of course, the power made it possible. The Porsche GT2 RS is not only very capable, but also very accessible”.

Randy Pobst, the driver who set the fast lap at Road Atlanta in the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, said that “even for a professional driver, it can be intimidating. When I get behind the wheel of the Porsche GT2 RS, I feel the torque under my control. The car is extremely balanced and a pleasure to drive.

The Porsche that set the speed record at Road Atlanta features a 3.8-litre rear-mounted six-cylinder engine, 700 CV and a maximum torque of 750 Nm. Its top speed is 340 kilometres per hour, and it is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds.

The powertrain is paired with a seven-speed PDK gearbox, shortened. The Stuttgart brand assures that the gear ratios are very short and tight so that gears can be changed using the paddles behind the steering wheel.
