The Renault Megane RS Trophy-R sets a lap record at Suzuka
Following the success of Honda on numerous circuits, breaking record after record with the Honda Civic Type R, now it is the turn of the Renault Megane RS Trophy-R.
Renault is delighted. Its new Megane RS Trophy R is a true “asphalt burner”. After the constant victories of Honda on different circuits with the Type R, it was about time that another manufacturer challenged them in this segment.

The French sports car already holds several records in this front-wheel-drive segment. In fact, at the Nürburgring, perhaps the most prestigious circuit in the world for setting all kinds of records, the Megane RS Trophy R has still not been beaten in its category.
With Laurent Hurgon at the wheel, the new Megane RS Trophy-R achieved a time of 2:25.454 around the Suzuka circuit on 26 November 2019, smashing the record by 3 seconds…

In the words of Patrice Ratti, General Director of the sports car division of Renault:
“The new Renault RS Trophy-R has achieved several records in its category. This time it was Suzuka’s turn, the most famous circuit in Japan and, by extension, one of the most prestigious in the world. This performance has been especially important for the more than 10,000 Trophy-R fans who were able to enjoy the spectacle. This is one more point in favour of strengthening relationships with our entire international customer base.”
Production of the new Megane RS Trophy-R is limited to 500 units worldwide. There are already more than 50 reservations in Japan. Deliveries will begin throughout 2020.

Compared with the standard Trophy, the R features a 1.8-litre turbocharged engine with four cylinders producing 296 CV. It also has a 6-speed manual gearbox, which will delight enthusiasts.
Its suspension, aerodynamics and weight have also been improved, with the weight reduced by 130 kilos.
The Megane RS Trophy-R promises to remain, for a good season, the undisputed winner in its category when it comes to dynamism.
