The Skoda Enyaq Coupe iV sets the Guinness record for the longest ice drift

The electric SUV sports car from the Czech brand has managed to drift more than 7 kilometres on a frozen lake in Sweden

Back in 2011, Skoda achieved for the first time in its history a Guinness World Record for the highest speed reached with a production forced-induction car of 2.0 litres displacement, reaching 227.080 mph at the legendary Bonneville Salt Flats, United States, at the wheel of an Octavia RS driven by specialist journalist Richard Meaden.

Now, the Czech brand returns to the Guinness Book of Records with no fewer than two records to its name, both achieved with the Skoda Enyaq Coupé iV, the brand’s second fully electric model.

The records achieved with the Enyaq Coupé iV by Skoda are, first, the longest continuous drift with a vehicle on ice and, second, the longest continuous drift on ice with an electric vehicle, covering no less than 7.351 kilometres of continuous drifting around an oval circuit on the frozen Stortjärnen lake in Sweden.

Record achieved on the fourth day

To achieve this record, 18 hours were spent drifting over five days at sub-zero temperatures, and no fewer than 39 laps of the circuit were completed to sustain a drift of more than seven kilometres, lasting 15 minutes and 58 seconds. During this long continuous drift, the Enyaq RS reached a top speed of 48.69 km/h and a speed of 31.64 km/h at its slowest point.

The Enyaq RS iV, again driven by motoring journalist Richard Meaden, was fitted with 20-inch alloy wheels shod with Michelin tyres in size 245/35-R20 on the front axle and 255/45-R20 on the rear. In addition, the front tyres featured 600 studs of 5 mm to improve traction and steering on ice, and the rear tyres had 300 studs of 2 millimetres to offer optimal grip on the icy surface, 40 centimetres thick.
