The Skoda Karoq reaches 250,000 units produced since its launch in 2017

Skoda continues to enjoy success with the Karoq, a compact SUV that has managed to reach 250,000 units produced since its launch.

The automotive sector continues to give constant prominence to one of the trendy segments, that of SUVs. Since roughly the beginning of the century, there is hardly a brand that does not have a vehicle from this acclaimed segment in its lineup today. Skoda jumped on this bandwagon with the Kodiaq, a model whose success was such that it allowed a younger sibling to follow in its footsteps, the Karoq. Today, the Czech brand’s mid-size SUV enjoys a warm reception since its launch in mid-2017, as evidenced by the 250,000 units produced since then.

Skoda has made its intentions very clear of allowing this segment to be present within its family, something it has demonstrated with the Kamiq. For now, its larger siblings have set the bar very high, and the newcomer will need a certain adaptation period; but the Karoq has already proven the capacity of the Czech brand’s SUVs to win over the public.

The Mladá Boleslav and Kvasiny plants have been responsible for bringing to life the more than 200,000 Karoqs that are on our roads today. Starting in 2018, production of Skoda’s compact SUV also moved to the second plant and, during that year, a total of 115,700 units left its gates.

So far this year, 2019, the brand has recorded total production of 97,900 units to date. On this basis, Skoda claims that the Karoq is one of its most successful models at this time, something made possible by good value for money and a series of solutions faithful to the philosophy of the Czech company, Simply Clever.

The unit that took the Karoq’s production up to 250,000 was a Black Magic finish model equipped with the 1.0 TSI engine. Furthermore, updating the Czech SUV with the brand’s latest innovations has been key to continuing its success, such as Side Assist and Virtual Cockpit, which aim to provide both modernity and safety to the package.

This is how Skoda has managed to offer a tough fight to its main competitors, who compete in a very crowded and sought-after sector. For now, it is premature to talk about a possible renewal of either the Karoq or the Kodiaq, but given the presence of the Kamiq it would not be far-fetched to consider that they will end up following that same design language.
