The spectacular Aston Martin DBS GT Zagato shows itself in all its splendour

Aston Martin has finally unveiled the first images of the DBS GT Zagato, which will arrive in 2020 as an exclusive limited edition alongside the DB4 GT Zagato

As part of the DBZ Centenary Collection, as we recently told you, Aston Martin has prepared for those with the deepest pockets two genuine collector’s gems: first, the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato that was presented at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, on which the engineers and restorers of the marque’s Heritage division invested 4,500 hours of work, and second, the Aston Martin DBS GT Zagato.

Anyone wishing to acquire one of these gems will not be able to do so separately: only 19 exclusive units of each will be built, and they must be purchased together, which is why they are not suitable for every budget. Aston Martin comes with news for both, and the first is that they already have a set price of £6 million, which, converted to euros, gives the attractive figure of €6,672,000 for this exclusive pair.

The other novelty Aston Martin has treated us to is the reveal of the exterior styling of the DBS GT Zagato, shown alongside the DB4 GT Zagato. The Aston Martin DBS GT Zagato has not been created from scratch: it is based on another equally spectacular and powerful model from the company, the DBS Superleggera, whose design has been modified to recover the lines of the classic GT Zagato and express them with a new design over a much more modern body.

Although the details so far are still sparse, Aston Martin has shared some of the spectacular engineering, design and aerodynamic details we will find on the DBS GT Zagato. For example, at the front we will find the enormous grille that is the marque’s signature feature, which includes a dynamic grille made of 108 diamond-shaped carbon fibre sections that closes when the vehicle is stationary, giving it a striking appearance, while once the engine starts it opens to allow airflow to the engine.

From the side we will also clearly see another of the changes Aston Martin has made to the DBS Superleggera to create the DBS GT Zagato: the roof. The roof of the Aston Martin DBS GT Zagato has been manufactured as a single carbon fibre piece, extending from the front windscreen to the rear where it ends. Another peculiarity of this roof is that, by design, it has no rear glass to improve visibility, so a camera will show the image of the rear in a screen located where the rear-view mirror would normally be, making reversing manoeuvres easier.

As for the mechanicals, there is no official confirmation yet, but Aston Martin has already hinted that it is a V12 and, being based on the DBS Superleggera, it is likely to retain the same 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 engine that delivers 720 CV, which will clearly be maintained. Production will not begin until 2020.
