The successor to the Alfa Romeo Stelvio could be electric and will arrive in 2026

The Italian brand is preparing an electric range that will break all the molds.

As some specialist sources have pointed out, the successor to the Alfa Romeo Stelvio will be fully electric and we won’t be able to see it until 2026. It won’t be the only novelty: the Italian brand will also have a large saloon with zero emissions that will follow the styling of the Lucid Air or even the Porsche Taycan.

The second generation of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio has won the hearts of many drivers, so much so that it has become one of the brand’s most popular models. It is no surprise that the Stellantis Group brand is betting on it to make it its electric flagship when the time comes for its update. Everything seems to suggest that Alfa Romeo will keep the bodywork and performance for its future electric Stelvio. This is nothing new: it is also preparing it for the electric Alfa Romeo Giulia.

The future electric Alfa Romeo Stelvio will be built on the STLA Large platform from Stellantis, the same one that will be used by the electric saloon that has already been confirmed but whose name we do not yet know.

Will the electric Alfa Romeo Stelvio continue the lineage?

The electric Giulia will share its powertrain with both the future Stelvio and the large saloon recently announced. Everything suggests that, at least in the entry version of the large saloon, this could mean power outputs starting at 345 CV, while the Veloce version will reach the market with around 800 CV. An absolute madness!

If it stays on schedule, the most powerful versions will come close to the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. It should be remembered that the current petrol-engined Alfa Romeo Stelvio produces around 500 CV. As we have mentioned, the new electric SUV could reach the market in 2026, while the long-awaited saloon is expected in 2028. Jean-Philippe Imparato describes the new SUV as “a built model”, and it is believed that it will bear a large resemblance to the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV or the BMW iX.

The large saloon and the SUV will be the key for Alfa Romeo to finally make a dent in the market, as well as in the Chinese market, which is even bigger. The range will be the key to the success of the large saloon, with a new luxury minimum of around 600 kilometres. “If you talk about range, you are talking about a saloon,” said Imparato, which seems to seal the deal as a competitor to the Lucid Air and Mercedes-Benz EQS.

Imparato’s suggestion is that production of the new electric vehicles would take place in Cassino, Italy, but this is not confirmed. If so, it would add the driving prestige of an electric Alfa Romeo vehicle.
